Interactive Fiction Dialogue HCI Individual Project, Study Instructions

This is a research study on how different dialogue interfaces affect your sense of control and understanding in narrative games. You will play through the same short story three times, each time with a different interface for making dialogue choices.

  • Proto A Choices appear as short summaries. Expand each option to read the full line before confirming your selection.
  • Proto B Each choice shows a short summary and a tone label indicating how your character will deliver the line. No full text is shown.
  • Proto C Each choice shows a short summary plus your companion Lena's emotional reaction, giving you a read on the stakes without seeing the full line.

Play each prototype in order. Each run takes about 5 minutes. After completing all three, you'll be directed to a short feedback survey. Play naturally and make the choices that feel right to you.
